Paeroa is looking forward to its next annual Jazz Festival on Saturday August 21st when warm venues, mulled wine and great music will lure you in to enjoy the wonderful ambience that this event is becoming known for.
We have some top entertainment for the day playing in five different venues through the main street, these include “Brett’s New Internationals” who were the star act from last year, playing at the RSA; the lovely & extremely talentedEdwina Thorneis joined by a backing band of great musicians, so we are really looking forward to a polished performance and will finish off with her band playing into the night at the Ohinemuri Club. Other bands new to Paeroa Jazz Festival are Michael Vinkand his six piece band - "Sandy Beach & the Coconuts"; Margaret Harper who aptly plays a harp as well as guitar and vocals and we are excited to hear her Jazz set with the harp.
We have two other bands coming who will appeal to those who are not so keen on Jazz but will love the blues & rock of Kokomo and Los Diablos who play covers of Gary Moore, Dire Straits, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Muddy Waters and a few of their own compositions as well. Orquestra Amadeus who are NZ’s only authentic Cuban charanga band promise music that is fresh, exciting and fun, while Waihi College Street Theatre Troupe will provide some delightful entertainment on the streets.
This year we are introducing a new stage where Secondary School Jazz bands from our region will be performing. In return they will have the opportunity to participate in some group tutorials with experienced musicians.
Don’t let the Winter blues get to you, put on your coat and come to Paeroa for a fantastic day of Jazz and more……
