"Congratulations on another positive Jazz Festival. The town had a great
atmosphere on Saturday."
"Thanks very much for having us. We really enjoyed playing for you. The audience was great, and the festival was really well organised. - Spiral"
"Really enjoyed the jazz last weekend. Only came across it by accident. Can you put us in your database to send info in advance for next years jazz festival, if you're having one."
"I would like to congratulate your committee on your lovely jazz festival. I attended yesterday, and had a great time. In particular, there was a great selection of diverse real jazz! I have been a musician, vocalist, and a member of the Tga jazz society for many years, and have been very sad about how that festival has lost its way - selling out to blues and rock, and the lowest common denominator! Good luck with future festivals, and I certainly plan to be a regular attender. Keep it up!"
"Many Thanks for today, great crowd and great festival, the band and myself really enjoyed today". - Orchestra Amadeus
We had fabulous entertainers and jazz musicians Nairobi Trio for our main act, along with the Lindsay Meech Jazz Band, the James Langabeer Quartet and the Prohibition Big Band all from Auckland. The Tait Kora Ensemble from Whakatane will bring jazz originals with an kiwi ethnic twist into the mix with some fabulous trombone playing from a young member of the group. We look forward to adding other great musicians to this line up and as always having a few other genres as well as just Jazz.
There will be five major venues in the main street offering a warm, cosy ambience in which to relax and savour the musical menu on offer while enjoying a glass of wine and a little something to eat. There will be room for dancing and we’ll be encouraging all the Festival goers to stay on for the party finales being held at two of these venues – one will be more of a black tie affair for the traditional dance enthusiasts and the other a more jazz/ blues/ rock style for those who just love to dance and party.
Other entertainment will feature in the cafes and along the street for those who don’t want to purchase a ticket but will still get to listen to some good music and partake of the general excitement of the day.
One of the additions to the day will be the performances of the winners from our recent “Paeroa’s Got Talent” competition who won the opportunity to perform at the Jazz Festival as part of their prize. We will also be hosting the Secondary schools section again this year and look forward to hearing some of these talented students performing Jazz for the public enjoyment. In return these student bands have the privilege of a tutorial from some esteemed Jazz musicians who are already performing at the Jazz Festival and will be passing on some valuable tips and techniques to these young players in their various fields.
All in all it will be a day of mixed entertainment centred mainly around Jazz. We invite you to come along dressed appropriately for the era to add to the festive feeling of the day and if your wardrobe is a little lacking in that department then you are sure to find a little something in one of our antique, vintage and retro stores that Paeroa is famous for.
