Held on the second Saturday in February each year, Paeroa is the only New Zealand town which regularly holds a Games with a Tattoo.
What started out as a small Pipe Bands Competition has grown over the years, and today is a fully-fledged Highland Games in it’s 19th year, one of only seven such Scottish gatherings in New Zealand, and the only one in New Zealand to hold an Evening Tattoo.
An average of 13 Highland Pipes Bands from the Auckland and Central North Island centres attend and compete in sets, medleys and a street march during the afternoon, and the massed bands displays during the evening Tattoo.
Over the years Solo Piping, Highland Dancing, Wood chopping, Heavyweight Athletes and Clan activities have been added to the day’s programme which starts at 9am and concludes at 9pm.
"If you've never been, it truly is something you must see at least once in a lifetime", as the newcomers emphatically promote what a wonderful day it is for people of all ages.

Comments from last year:
"A wee bit o' Scotland came to Paeroa" last Saturday with an event celebrating all things Scottish held in the Paeroa Domain. "Everyone took the chance to show off their ceremonial dress and clan affiliations all dressed in meticulously prepared and eye-catching costumes" especially with the "Tartan in the Park" competition for the creative person to parade their design style. There was something for everyone from the stirring strains of the bagpipes to the axemen's carnival and tossing of the caber or Highland cattle & kilts to admire all ending in the stirring grand finale of massed pipe bands in the Tattoo held in front of the replica Edinburgh Castle - Paeroa style!
