Positive Paeroa

Positive Paeroa is an Incorporated Society that has been in existence since 2001 with a committee that was formed from the ashes of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce to represent the community and to enhance business opportunities in the town. There are nine members on the committee which is made up of representatives from both the business sector and residential ratepayers and one member from the Hauraki District Council. The committee meet monthly to discuss and plan community initiatives and to direct and oversee the work of the Town Promoter.

They employ a full time Town Promoter and are committed to promoting & marketing Paeroa within New Zealand and overseas as an attractive, innovative and unique place to visit, live & work.

We have some world class events such as the “Battle of the Streets” motorbike races; the Highland Games & Tattoo which attract national & international visitors and competitors and in 2011 our Thames Valley Deerstalkers Association will be hosting the English Sporting World Clay Target Champs. Other events like the Ohinemuri Jazz Festival in August, Backyard Cricket, V8 show & Swap meet, Antiques Weekend with a Vintage & Classic Car Parade Sporting events (mostly rugby & netball) & the Wild Food, Wine & Art Festival are also building in popularity .

Comments are often made by folk in neighbouring towns that “Paeroa is always busy doing something” and we are often referred to both as the “Events Capital” of New Zealand and the “Antique Town of NZ”. All the more reason why we are “World Famous in NZ”.

Town Promoter

Anne (or Anee) Harris has held the position of Town Promoter for the past 31/2 years. I have recently built a house in Karangahake though I have lived and worked in the Paeroa District for the past 23 years. I have four children who are all now adults and living their own lives, most of them in the local area. I have owned and operated several of my own businesses and worked in various different sectors of the community including retail which over the years has given me the many skills required to be the Town Promoter. I love organising events, liasing with people and feel that Paeroa has so much to offer, with its biggest asset being the people who live and work here. It is a privilege to be able to promote a town and an area that I feel so passionate about.

There has always been some great things happening in Paeroa and I intend to build on these existing events and work to enhance the overall appearance and profile of Paeroa, encouraging people to stop when passing through and give them a reason to visit the Town and surrounding area and spend some time here.

BA5’s

Once a month we hold a Business After Five function which is hosted by a different business each month in conjunction with Positive Paeroa. This is an opportunity for businesses to showcase themselves and let the other folk in Paeroa know what they do and what services they provide. It is basically a time to socialise and network with others over a glass of wine & nibbles, with time set aside for introductions, a presentation or a few words by the host business, any news or announcements and sometimes a guest speaker. It is good advertising for the hosts and helps to increase their profile in the community, especially if they are not a main street business.
